This book collects many of his newspaper columns that were published every week in the Chicago Evening Post. Using a satirical character, Mr. Dooley (an Irish-American citizen), Dunne vigorously satirized the Spanish-American War, and North American society in many of his columns, which launched his notoriety beyond the city of Chicago. Mr. Dooley also regularly commented on the experience of immigrants assimilating into American society during the nineteenth century. In addition, this book also contains essays that are not in the voice of his satirical character, Mr. Dooley, but rather, in Dunne's own voice. Near Fine. Item #000010121
