Item #000010484 African Genesis; A Personal Investigation into the Animal Origins and Nature of Man. Robert Ardrey.

African Genesis; A Personal Investigation into the Animal Origins and Nature of Man

New York: Atheneum, 1961. First American edition. Hardcover. 8vo. [10], vii-xii, [4], 3-390, [8] pp. Bound in brown cloth with the author's name stamped in gold on the front board, gold lettering and light green horizontal decorative bars on the spine; dark brown topstain; light green endpapers and pastedowns. Price of $6.95 on the front jacket flap. The first book in the author's Nature of Man series. Includes drawings by the author's wife Berdine Ardrey. There were two printings of this book by Atheneum in September and December of 1961; the second printing was stated, whereas the first was not (possibly because the UK edition was published before the simultaneous US and Canadian editions, n.b. we have been unable to confirm this). Ardrey's book was the cause of considerable controversy in the social sciences in the late 1960s and early 1970s and was also a popular success, inspiring a great deal of interest in anthropology and the study of human origins amongst the general public. A nice copy of this influential and widely-read book. Very Good / Very Good. Item #000010484

A Very Good book with scattered notations and underlining in pencil in a Very Good lightly edge-worn dust jacket with toning to the spine panel.
