John Walker was a naturalist and surveyed the Hebrides between the years of 1766 through 1786. He was a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh and taught natural history. These volumes were published posthumously. Walker's two volume set gives great detail on the agriculture, the population, the police force, the fossils and natural plants of the Hebrides, and on other aspects of life in the Hebrides during the late seventeenth century.
