Bogousslavsky J, Walusinski O, Veyrunes D: "Crime, Hysteria and Belle Époque Hypnotism: The Path Traced by Jean-Martin Charcot and Georges Gilles de la Tourette." Eur Neurol 2009; 62:193-199. doi: 10.1159/000228252. This Danish edition was published after the original text was published in Paris in 1887. Gilles de la Tourette was famous for his work on Tourette's syndrome but spent a great deal of his life working on hypnosis as both a treatment for, and a symptom of anxiety, or as it was called at the end of the nineteenth century, "hysteria". Tourette was famous for testifying in court against the argument that one could be exonerated for committing a crime because they were hypnotized. He used hypnotism to treat patients with anxiety, and was famously later shot by a patient who was treated by him, but turned out to suffer from psychosis. Thanks to his advocacy for reforms to the criminal justice system, the shooter was committed to an institution rather than placed in prison. A pleasing copy of De La Tourette's work on hypnotism and similar cognitive states that he studied throughout his career. Very Good. Item #000011823

Traces of rubbing, especially to the bottom edges of the boards, just a touch of foxing to the title page.
