Sidgwick is widely regarded as one of the most important moral philosophers of the nineteenth century. Practical Ethics is a collection of philosophical essays, many of which were presented to various ethical societies in London and Cambridge during the period 1888 - 1897. Several of the essays included were first published in this book, others were first published in the International Journal of Ethics.
