Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH
New York: Atheneum, 1971. First edition. Hardcover. 8vo. [8], 3-233, [1] pp. Grey cloth with a mouse in purple on the front board, purple lettering on the spine. Pink endpapers and pastedowns. Price of $5.95 on the front flap of the dust jacket. Illustrated with in-text and full-page drawings by Zena Bernstein. Our jacket has a Newbery Medal sticker on it, however, contrary to what some listings say, this is not in fact an issue point. When it comes to books and their jackets, issues and states are determined based on the decisions of publishers and printers (for further discussion of this, please see Bowers and Gaskell's treatises on bibliography). Newbery stickers are products of the American Library Association, and have nothing to do with the publisher or the printer. Anyone, from a bookseller, a collector, or a librarian, can paste Newbery stickers onto dust jackets. This does not make a jacket a later issue, as publishers and their printers do not print the stickers, nor do they decide which books get to be Newbery Winners (that is the ALA's prerogative). A gorgeous, fresh copy of O'Brien's saga of Mrs. Frisby and her fight to take care of her family as a single mouse-mother. A fantasy classic. Near Fine / Near Fine. Item #000012334
One leaf with a tiny corner crease; jacket has a minute nick to the spine panel and a bit of toning to its flaps.
