The Complete Angler
London: Ingram, Cooke and Co., 1853. Later edition. Hardcover. 8vo. [5], vi-xiv, [1], 2-326, [2] pp. Contemporary polished green calf with twin gold borders to each board, spine in six compartments with gold decorations of fish and shells and a red morocco label lettered in gold on the spine; all edges marbled. Marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated with a frontispiece, an engraved title page, a facsimile of the original title page, three plates of fish and bait, and with several in-text engravings (a large portion of the engravings done by Pearson, though Oliver had trouble locating the full name of the artist). Edited by Edward Fitzgibbon. Oliver 66. The first edition edited by Fitzgibbon, a reprint of the fifth edition of 1676 with added notes. Oliver calls for a printer's imprint on the verso of the title page but our copy does not have this imprint, however, it does have the imprint on page 324 and corresponds with Oliver's entry for the first Ephemera edition in every other respect. A beautifully bound and illustrated edition of Walton's classic treatise on fishing. Very Good. Item #000012562
Joints and hinges neatly repaired, a modern bookplate on the front pastedown.
