Navy coated endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated with thirty full-page illustrations, one plate, and with wood engravings in the advertisements. The advertisements included in this book are as an excellent survey of local businesses extant in Madison and southern Wisconsin during the latter half of the nineteenth century. They also reveal the prominent industries operating in southern Wisconsin during this time. The illustrations depict landmarks like the Stoughton Opera House, the four lakes, a steamship on Lake Kegonsa, the Capitol building, King Street, and one image of a Native American settlement. A guide to places of scenic beauty and historical note found in Dane County, with a note on the organization of the towns, interactions between white settlers and the local Native Americans, Native American settlements in the area, etc. With a complete list of county supervisors and officers, legislative members, Madison Village and City Council.
