Societies in an Age of Rising Nationalism, Mass Culture, and Social Conflict, 1870-1918 ". Ruth L. Dewhurst argues that choirs like these contributed to and reflected the rise of German nationalism before the First World War. While the choir may have brought German people together, it also helped to forge inflexible ideas of identity, art, and achievement. This would help foster conflict between the nations that would eventually go on to fight one another in the First World War. Near Fine. Item #000012712
