Illustrated with twelve full-page portraits of each courtesan, printed in orange on plates but incorporated into the pagination. Translated into French by Armand Fournier. The first French edition. A history of twelve women (some English, some Irish, some Scottish) who were mistresses to various members of the English nobility, women who were the subjects of journalistic gossip. One of the women, Grace Dalrymple Eliot, was an eyewitness to the events of the French Revolution, and would later write about her experiences. Very Good. Item #000012817
