Hearne was the first white man to venture over land to the Arctic Ocean and is credited with the discovery of the Mackenzie River ecosystem. Unfortunately for his employer, the Hudson Bay company, his travels found nothing of commerical use (the company was searching for a copper mine). However, his writings helped to chart the Hudson Bay, the Arctic Ocean, and what is now northern Canada. Near Very Good. Item #000013690
The modern binding is sharp and attractive. This volume lacks two plates and a plan (the frontispiece). The directions to the binder's leaf has a few ink checkmarks next to the list of illustrations.
