[4], v-xxiii, [1], 1-280, [2] (pages of publisher's advertisements) pp. Green-grey publisher's cloth with gold lettering on the front board and spine, two gold rules on the spine; top edge gilt. With 186 illustrations and four maps: single sided plates of photographs (mostly black and white, one color), one of the maps folds out. Small errata slip tipped in at page 1. Petrie is credited with significant advancements in the fields of stratigraphy and Egyptology. His work helped establish methods for dating and reconstructing the different historical eras of a civilization. Throughout his life Petrie excavated in England, Egypt, and Palestine. This is one of several works he published on archaeology. Petrie is credited with helping to bring discipline and organization to those excavating artifacts from ancient cultures. Very Good.
