Sigenae Nassoviorum [=Siegen]: Christophori Corvini, 1598. Second edition. Hardcover. 2 volumes bound in one. 8vo. [34], 1-304, [12], 1-1017, [16] pp. Later full parchment, binding with ties on its joints to strengthen it; all edges black. Manuscript title on the spine. Woodcut initials, head and tailpieces. Also illustrated with a folding chart. The first book contains writings on the word of God, a summary of the outline of theological methods, an explanation of Melancthon's Loci Communes, a life of Georg Sohn, and various additional theological treatises; the second book contains an explanation of the principle articles of the Augsburg Confession. Adams 1373. McClintock and Strong Biblical Encyclopedia, "Sohn, Georg". Sohn died in 1589. He taught at a few different universities in Germany, as he was ousted from his first academic post, due to controversy and fierce debate in Lutheran theology. Our copy contains books one and two of Sohn's works, there was a third book published with Sohn's writings on the Psalms of David, but that book is not bound in this volume. Ex-Library. Item #000015615
A library ticket and a stamp (pre 1900) on the front pastedown, the first title page reattached at its gutter, neatly done, a few annotations in the text (possibly from 1781, a name in the same ink is written and dated on the title page). A drawing on the rear pastedown of a cross with notes, certainly done before 1900.
