In Divinum Iesu Christi Domini Nostri Evangelium Secundum Ioannem, Commentariorum Libri X
Tiguri: Apud Frosch, 1548. Second edition. Hardcover. Folio. [36], 1-195, [1] pp. Half cloth over marbled paper boards, paper label on the spine (ca. 1900). Later endpapers and pastedowns. Woodcut device on the title page, woodcut initials. Adams 3229. British Museum, STC German-Speaking Countries 166. Encyclopedia Britannica, "Heinrich Bullinger". Adams records only a 1543 edition before this 1548 edition. This is Bullinger's commentary on The Gospel According to John. Bullinger was a Roman Catholic who converted to Protestantism, and worked closely with and then succeeded Zwingli. Eventually Bullinger would have to come to an agreement with John Calvin and the two traditions fused. Bullinger corresponded with both Henry VIII and Edward VI of England, and was highly influential in the Protestant Reformation. This work is scarce in commerce. Very Good. Item #000015616
