Gilman's treatise on child-rearing: an argument that raising children should be done by individuals particularly suited to the task. Perkins Gilman advocated for society to collectively come together and offer a nationalized social service for the minding of children, this partially influenced by Edward Bellamy's work. The author is best-known for her short story, "The Yellow Wallpaper", about a woman's descent into madness after untreated post-partum depression. Perkins Gilman was a highly influential feminist figure in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century United States, and even today some of her ideas are considered radical (such as free childcare for all). A fascinating treatise of studies on early childhood, written by one of America’s pioneering feminists and advocates for gender equality. Very Good or better. Item #000015716
