Start Your Own Religion
[Millbrook, New York]: Kriya Press of the Sri Ram Ashram [1967], 1967. First edition. Pamphlet. 8vo. 23.5 cm x 17 cm. [4], 1-27, [3] pp. Pamphlet. White wrappers with lettering and decorations in orange, brown, yellow, and pink on the front wrapper, staple-bound. The verso of the front wrapper with a full-page photograph, the pamphlet illustrated with in-text and full-page black and white photographs throughout. The photographs done by Danielle Padwa, Alvis Upitis, Ted Druch, David Tirrel, and Jack Leary. A publication from the League of Spiritual Discovery, a mid-twentieth century religion founded by Leary. The pamphlet was published in the same town where Leary's commune was located. The text explains the religion's anthem: "Tune in, Turn on, Drop out" ("Our aim is to help recreate every man as God and every woman as Goddess"). The pamphlet contains the by-laws of Leary's commune and some meeting minutes, but it also contains instructions on how LSD and other psychedelic drugs can help a member of the group achieve spiritual enlightenment. A large portion of the pamphlet’s discussion is dedicated to how one can establish their own religion under New York state laws. A fascinating product of the Counterculture movement. Very Good. Item #000015933
A small bump to one corner of the pamphlet, light soiling to the rear wrapper.
