Freud The Assault on Truth; Freud's Suppression of the Seduction Theory
London: faber and faber (1984), 1984. First UK edition. Hardcover. 8vo. [6], vii-xxiii, [3], 3-308, [4] pp. Grey paper over boards with black lettering on the spine. Jacket design by Pentagram. With a few full-page photographs in black and white. Much of Masson's early career revolved around the Seduction Theory proposed by Sigmund Freud. Masson worked closely with the Sigmund Freud Archives and with Anna Freud until 1981, when he was dismissed from the Archives for his criticisms of Freud. Masson's work was explored in a series of New Yorker articles, but Masson would sue the journalist who wrote these articles for defamation (Masson claimed the journalist misquoted him from interviews and transcripts). This book caused a great deal of controversy and is uncommon in the first edition. Very Good / Very Good. Item #000016694
