My Trip Abroad

New York: Harper & Brothers [1922], 1922. First edition. Hardcover. 8vo. [9], 2-155, [1], [2] (pages of publisher's advertisements) pp. Cream paper over boards printed in brown on the front board and spine. With the dustwrapper. Illustrated with a frontispiece and with several plates, all with black and white photographs from Chaplin's sojourn. With the publisher's code "B-W" (February 1922) on the copyright page. This book does not correspond to the publisher's convention as stated by McBride and Ahearn but this cataloger has not found a copy on the market or in an institution with an earlier date code. Some denote this as an early printing of the first edition, we think this is likely the first printing of the first edition. Zempel and Verkler note that the publisher did not record the exact year or date when they started using the words "First Edition" on their copyright pages along with their printing codes to denote their first printings. We have seen two variants of the jacket: one in which the rear panel advertises fiction titles, the other on which the rear panel advertises more travel narratives. Our rear panel advertises travel narratives. A charming travel narrative from one of old Hollywood's most beloved actors. Very Good / Good. Item #000016862

A bookplate on the front pastedown and a tiny tear on the free front endpaper; jacket is price-clipped and has tape reinforcements to its reverse.
