A Grief Observed
Greenwich Connecticut: The Seabury Press, 1963. First American edition. Hardcover. Slim 8vo. [4], 7-60, [4] pp. Quarter grey cloth over green and grey patterned paper over boards, silver lettering on the spine. Price of $2.00 on the front flap of the dust jacket. Brown and Hamilton 74. According to the bibliographers of Lewis the first edition, first American printing has N.W. Clerk listed on the spine and the title page as the author of this book (our copy accords with this). Brown and Hamilton identify two different jackets for the first American printing: one has N.W. Clerk on the front and spine panels as the author, the later jacket has the publisher's blurbs and the $2.00 price of the original but lists C.S. Lewis as the author of this work once the publisher gained permission from the family and the estate to do so. Our copy has Lewis listed as the author on the front and spine panels, the correct price, and the correct blurbs. Lewis' moving memoir of love and loss in the wake of his wife's death, published shortly before he himself passed away at the end of 1963. Fine / Near Fine. Item #000016912
A hint of wear to the edges of the jacket, else a sharp copy.
Price: $650.00
