The story of an anthropologist's exploration of India west of the Subansiri river and his attempts to establish friendly relations with the tribespeople of the area. Haimendorf undertook his travels during the end of the Second World War. Rather than taking an armed escort, Haimendorf took his wife and professional collaborator to allay the suspicions of the native peoples.
