[7], viii-xiv, [3], 2-624, [2] pp. Contemporary half brown calf over marbled boards, spine in five compartments with a black morocco label lettered in gilt with the spine showing blind and gilt tooling, marbled textblocks and endpapers. Bound from the original parts, with the half-title, lacks the original wrappers and advertisements. Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece and vignette title page along with 38 additional plates by H.K. Browne ('Phiz'). All first issue points present (according to Gimbel) except 'screwed' is in place of 'screamed' on page 132. One plate bound in at page 80 instead of at page 79 as called for in Hatton & Cleaver. An attractive copy in a contemporary binding of what is regarded by many, including the author himself (e.g. see Ackroyd, Dickens pp. 605-606), as Dickens' finest novel, a landmark work in the field of English literature.
