Two volumes bound in one (title pages state "In Two Volumes", "Vol. I"; "In Two Volumes", "Vol. II"). Half contemporary green sheep over green pebbled cloth, with the boards ruled in gold, spine in seven compartments, spine with gold rules and a purple leather label lettered in gold on the spine, all edges sprinkled red. Green endpapers and pastedowns. Bound without the wrappers, half-titles, and advertisements. Each volume illustrated with a frontispiece with 38 additional wood engravings by Marcus Stone. The final plate is bound in at page 303 rather than page 292. Lacks the errata slip that is occasionally found in copies of this work. Contains the postscript. Eckel 95. Gimbel A149. A Very Good book with a small dampstain to each board and pastedown, corners rubbed, leaves are largely clean with very minor foxing, not affecting the plates.
