Illustrated with seven beautiful fold-out copper plates. Intended as a textbook for young people to learn about the seasons, the motions of the planets (with Venus specifically called out), tidal patterns, eclipses, and the moon's phases. Oxford DNB: "Ferguson, James (1710-1756)". A fellow of the Royal Society, Ferguson showed a great interest in mechanics, astronomy, and physics from a young age. Though he received little formal education, he was able to teach himself about the solar system and published books for the public to better understand astronomy.
