With an introductory essay by Walter Kaufmann (Schacht's dissertation advisor). Inscribed by Schacht (to a man we presume is his brother), the inscription reads: "For Jim, with love. Dick Nov. 16, 1970". Jim Schacht has written his name and address on the free front endpaper. Alienation was Schacht's dissertation at Princeton University. Honderich 799-800. Schacht was famous for his scholarship on Nietzsche and his work on other Continental philosophers such as Hegel. He advocated for these philosophers and their work to be included and studied in the canon of Western philosophy. A fascinating association copy of Schacht's first published work.
