The True Story of the French Dispute in Madagascar

London: T. Fisher Unwin, 1885. First edition. Hardcover. 8vo. [5], iv-viii, [1], 2-279, [1] pp. 32 page publisher's catalogue bound in at the rear. Bound in blue cloth, with gilt lettering and decorations on the front board and gilt lettering on the spine, publisher's device in blind on the rear board, yellow-green patterned endpapers and pastedowns. Folding map in the front. Oxford DNB, "Oliver, Samuel Pasfield". Captain Pasfield was a world traveler, visiting imperial colonies of the French and British, as well as Mediterranean territories. He was an archaeologist, a botanist, and an ethnologist. In this work he criticizes the treatment of the Malagasi people at the hands of the British imperialist officials. For a time, his writings on Madagascar were considered definitive, because of his thorough methodology in his reporting (Oxford DNB, "Oliver, Samuel Pasfield"). Very Good. Item #00008851

Very Good with some minor rubbing and discoloration to the boards, top of rear hinge starting, some tears to the publisher's catalogue.
