[3], 4-420, [4] pp. Quarter recent black smooth morocco over original pebbled green cloth boards with gold lettering on the spine. Recent endpapers and pastedowns with original endpapers bound in. Written by a Librarian of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. Signed, "With compliments of Daniel [I?] Durrie" on the free front endpaper. An illustrated edition was released simultaneously with this one, this is the edition without illustrations. An early history of Madison, with Durrie covering French exploration of the area and a bit of the Native history of Madison. Durrie also explains the early topographical surveys of the area, and how the city came to be Wisconsin's seat of government. The early schools, businesses, and churches of Madison are discussed, along with the history of the area's university. Scandalous local events are also included in Durrie's history.
