With a critical and biographical introduction by George H. Ellwanger. White's book covers the natural history, namely the flora and fauna, of Selborne. He also discusses the man-made history of the area. White concludes with observations of insects, quadrupeds, and birds that he has studied. The author himself had a home in Selborne.
