Dornbusch 1986. Nevins 59. Grant completed his memoirs shortly before his death in 1885. The books were published and edited by Mark Twain and his nephew Charles Webster (co-owners of Charles L. Webster & Company), and these were the first two volumes in the "Shoulder Strap" series. This a nice set of the deluxe bindings of Grant's memoirs, two of the most important books of the Civil War. A Very Good set with a name stamp on each volume's title page, leaves show occasional light foxing and a dampstain to the gutter of volume two's frontispiece; boards show minimal rubbing with the front joint of volume one showing a tiny split (but remains secure).
