Illustrated with a frontispiece photograph of the author and seventeen additional plates of black and white photographs of Hoyt's days on the Western frontier of the United States. Photographs depict Jesse James, Cole Younger, Billy the Kid, letters from Billy the Kid, Hoyt pan-handling for gold in Texas, and his days of military service in the Spanish-American War. Hoyt first journeyed to the Black Hills as a young man, and made his way to Santa Fe, and then to Texas as he grew into a mature adult.
