The Marne

New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1918. First edition. Hardcover. Small 8vo. [6], 128, [2] pp. Quarter green cloth over grey paper boards with green lettering on the front board and spine. Price of $1.25 on the spine panel of the dust jacket. Ahearn APG 030a. Wharton's historical novel focused on a young American man and his obsession with France's fate in the First World War. The main character is in France for both battles at the Marne, and reflects on American attitudes towards what was at first, a "European" conflict. Difficult to find in dust jacket, this Wharton novel portrays a contemporary account of globalism in the early twentieth century, and how people react differently from one another in a global crisis. Very Good / Good+. Item #00009936

Very Good with a touch of rubbing to the bottom corners and a tiny nick to each endpaper; jacket is Good or better with a few chips to the spine and rear panel and a small dampstain on the front panel.

Price: $600.00
